“What I love about MYPI is that it is giving me the ability to do something for my community about an issue that deeply resonates with me. While I was born in America, my mother was born in Ethiopia and my father in Sudan, and in the face of immense challenges such as war breaking out, my parents were forced to migrate to the U.S. whereupon they would begin new lives. Their stories always amaze me and truly provide insight into the grueling hardships refugees (who in most cases have been forced to depart their homes and places of birth due to means outside of their control) must experience daily. Through MYPI’s Adopt-A-Family Program, I will be able to be an asset to this community and relieve some of the burdens faced by one of the most hardworking groups of people in the world. InshaAllah, I can follow in the footsteps of my Prophet (SAW) and uplift the well-being of those within my community.”
